On 19 - 22 of June 2008 venues of International Exhibition Center “Moldexpo” were turned out into an art gallery, where there reigned wonderful, colourful magic world of art, fantasy and creativeness – here was held the 10th “АRT EXPO” International Specialized Exhibition of modern art – the event of an exceptional importance for the cultural life of the Republic. Informational support: TV № 4 channel, Russkoie Radio, Radio Plai, Autoradio, Radio Retro, Radio Noroc “ART EXPO” exhibition project is a step towards a modern human-being, being permanent busy and unsatisfied with necessity in art. The main aim of “ART EXPO” exhibition is to popularize and give an impact to reexamination of values of modern society, thus, contributing to creation of favorable environment for art in the country. Year by year the exhibition grows in its indexes, especially in quality one and in the number of exhibitors, these talk about its popularity and that the event is in great demand.
At the exhibition there were presented works of artists, popular handicraftsmen, photographers, non-governmental organizations, sculptors, the museum, and companies producing accessories for artists – 180 participants. More than 5000 exhibits were exhibited here: paintings , graphics, sculpture, popular art, photography, jewelry items etc.
Due to its democracy and riding off out of usual format, the exhibition reflected different directions, styles and forms of modern creativeness. Here everybody could see art works of both young and world-known artists of modern art.
Unique sculptural works, reflecting originality and Moldovan colour were demonstrated at the exhibition. The centuries-old traditions of popular handicraftsmen, which preserve special “taste” of colours and shape, colour of Moldovan culture, were presented by popular handicraftsmen form Union of Popular Handicraftsmen of Moldova. Ceramic items, table crockery embodied the spirit and experience of our world-known ancestors-potters.
Many-sidedness of Moldovan art was demonstrated in the works of masters on wood carving: household goods with eleme nts of traditional Moldovan ornaments and religious motives, which could add colour to any interior design. Impressive works of Moldovan handicraftswomen on embroidery, who executed sceneries in art hemstitch, using “French beads” technique, two-side hemstitch, as well as cross-stitch one, which impressed by their luxuriance of colours shades and variety of motives in this kind of art. National traditions in weaving, preserving symbolism of Moldovan traditional carpet of XV century, were demonstrated in different works. Here there were also exhibited ceramic items, which incarnated spirit and experience of our well-known ancestors-potters. Handicraft works made of natural materials covered such items as pictures, elegant handbags, hats etc.
For the four days venues of “Moldexpo” were turned out into a cozy “Сasa Mare” hall, where masters embroidered, weaved, crocheted and carved from wood, accompanying the working process by exciting stories about popular traditions and customs of Moldova. In front of your very eyes there were born wonderful works of popular handicraftsmen. Here they shared with their secrets of mastering, discussed problems faced and possibilities. The events of the business program afforded to get information about new offers and perspectives.
Within the frames of the business program “ARS-DOR” Association held the conference: “Art to purchase art” and demonstrated possibilities to promote art works towards market. The National Center of Folk Arts organized a round table, which touched the most important problem of inheriting of national handicraft traditions by young popular handicraftsmen. This was the place where Union of Popular Handicraftsmen of the Republic of Moldova covered the matters regarding economical possibilities for the creative industry in our republic.
Besides that, daily at the exhibition there were held master-classes on ceramic works: moulding on electrical potter’s wheel, manual modeling from clay, painting and baking of ceramics etc.; on manufacture of items made of straw, and also made in Japanese style – Furoshiki; on art carving on stone techniques, wood etc.
Organizers held “Beauty from the point of view of amateurs” traditional contest among participants. The winners of the contest were determined according to three nominations: “Decorative art”, “Handicrafts items” and “Photography”.
For the first time within the frames of the exhibition the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Moldova organized Contest of handicraftsmen-participants of the exhibition.
At our vain time, marked by important social transformations the famous saying of Fiodor Dostoevskii “Beauty will save the world!” gains a special meaning.
“ART EXPO-2008” exhibition was held under the motto – art is a key to the soul of modern society.
